About Me

Peter Whalley is head of Restructuring and Insolvency at James Cowper Kreston. He is also chairman of the International Restructuring and Insolvency Group within Kreston International - the 13th largest global network of independent accounting firms of which James Cowper Kreston is a UK member.

Peter advises clients - both UK and overseas - about re-organisation and streamlining of groups of companies. Working alongside the firm's tax specialists he also assists clients extract capital from companies - typically following business disposals - using solvent (members' voluntary) liquidations and tax efficient (s.110) reconstructions, where appropriate.

In addition, Peter advises stakeholders on cash-strapped businesses and UK insolvency procedures. He has specialist expertise in survival strategies for underperforming businesses; directors’ responsibilities to creditors; acquisition and disposal of distressed businesses; and renegotiation of distressed debt/equity finance. 

Peter has built up a wide range of sector specific experience including aerospace, automotive, insurance, IT, marine, property and construction, retail, recruitment, telecoms and textiles. As well as working in the UK, he has undertaken assignments in Europe the US and East Africa.

Peter is a chartered accountant. He holds a Diploma in Corporate Finance from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales which also licenses him to accept formal insolvency appointments. Peter is a Fellow of the Assocation of Business Recovery Professionals and of the Institute of Directors.
